Malaysia Commemorative Coins 2014 : Malaysia-China Diplomatic Relation 50th Anniversary

Bank Negara Malaysia isued commemorative coins in conjunction with the 40th Anniversary of Malaysia-China Diplomatic Relations. The commemorative coins were presented by Y.A.B. Dato’ Sri Mohd. Najib bin Tun Haji Abdul Razak, Prime Minister of Malaysia to H.E. Li Keqiang, Chinese Premier to signify the diplomatic relationship between the two countries over the four decades and will continue to strengthen in the coming years. This event was held on 31 May 2014 at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.  

Specifications of the commemorative coins are as follows:

1. Gold Commemorative Coin (proof)

This proof coin is made of gold with 99.99 purity and weighs 7.96 grams. It has a face value of RM100 and will be sold at RM 1,800 a piece. The mintage quantity is 500 pieces.

2. Coloured Silver Commemorative Coin (proof)

This proof coloured coin is made of Fine Silver with 99.9 purity and weighs 31.10 grams. It has a face value of RM10 and will be sold at RM200 a piece. The mintage quantity is 2,000 pieces.

3. Nordic Gold Brilliant Uncirculated (B.U) Commemorative Coin

The Nordic Gold (B.U) coin has a face value of RM1 and will be sold at RM10 each. The mintage quantity is 25,000 pieces.


Coin Design

The design descriptive of the commemorative coins is as follows:

1. Obverse Side of the Coin

The centre of the coin shows the Petronas Twin Towers and the Great Wall of China as the iconic features of Malaysia and China, while the flags of both countries (in colour for the coloured silver version) are featured below these icons. The words “MALAYSIA-CHINA DIPLOMATIC RELATIONS” are on the upper circumference and the years 1974 – 2014 denoting 40 years of anniversary are inscribed on the lower circumference of the coin.
 

2. Reverse Side of the Coin

The words 40th Anniversary are inscribed in the centre of the coin with the skylines of Malaysia and China on the left and right sides respectively. The skyline of Malaysia features National Museum, Telekom Tower, Kuala Lumpur Tower, Putrajaya Prime Minister’s Office, Petronas Twin Towers, Tabung Haji Tower, Sultan Abdul Samad Building and Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Mosque, Shah Alam. The skyline of China features Oriental Pearl Tower, China International Trust Investment Plaza, Great Wall of China, Beijing National Stadium, China Central Television Headquarters, Shanghai World Financial Centre, Jin Mao Tower, Forbidden City, Yonghe Temple and Temple of Heaven. The words “BANK NEGARA MALAYSIA” as the issuing authority of the commemorative coin are featured on the upper circumference of the coin, while the face value of the coin is inscribed on the lower circumference.

Malaysia Commemorative Coins 2014 : Taman Negara 75th Anniversary

Bank Negara Malaysia isued commemorative coins in conjunction with the 75th Anniversary of Taman Negara, Malaysia’s premier national park and is a popular ecotourism destination. The park is also one of the oldest tropical rainforests in the world and known to be the habitat for about 150 species of mammals, 53 species of fish, 479 species of birds and more than 3,000 species of plants. These commemorative coins were launched by Y.B. Datuk Seri G.Palanivel, Minister of Natural Resources and Environment on 29 October 2014 at Taman Negara.

Specifications of the commemorative coins are as follows:

  1. Gold Commemorative Coin (proof)
    This proof coin is made of gold with 99.99 purity and weighs 7.96 grams. It has a face value of RM100 and will be sold at RM 1,800 a piece. The mintage quantity is 500 pieces.

Coin Design
The design description of the commemorative coins is as follows:

  1. Obverse Side of the Coin
    The centre of the coin shows the Pantera Tigris Jacksoni, a species of tiger that can be found only in Taman Negara. Banjaran Tahan and Keruing Neram trees which are located along the Tahan river are depicted in the background. Lavistonia Tahanensis, a type of palm that can be found only in Banjaran Tahan area is featured on the lower right side of the coin. The words “SAMBUTAN 75 TAHUN TAMAN NEGARA” are on the upper circumference and the years 1939 – 2014 denoting 75 years of anniversary are inscribed on the lower circumference of the coin.
  2. Reverse Side of the Coin
    The centre of the coin features the map of Semenanjung Malaysia, with thicker border around the three states, i.e. Pahang, Kelantan, and Terengganu where Taman Negara is located. The shaded area shows the exact location of Taman Negara. The words “BANK NEGARA MALAYSIA” as the issuing authority of the commemorative coin is featured on the upper circumference of the coin, while the face value of the coin is inscribed on the lower circumference.
