An endangered species is a species which has been categorized as very likely to become extinct. Endangered (EN), as categorized by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List, is the second most severe conservation status for wild populations in the IUCN's schema after Critically Endangered (CR).

In Malaysia, 14% of mammals are listed by The World Conservation Union (IUCN) as endangered.

Malaysia Gold Bullion 2001 : Kijang Emas

The Malaysian Kijang Emas is the official gold bullion coin of Malaysia and is minted by the Royal Mint of Malaysia. It was first issued on 17 July 2001.  Malaysia is the 12th country in the world to issue its own gold bullion coin.

The Kijang Emas has a gold purity of 999.9 millesimal fineness. The coins come in denominations of RM200, RM100 and RM50 which are nominal face values, and weighs 1 oz, ½ oz and ¼ oz respectively.  The purchase and resale price of Kijang Emas is determined by the prevailing international gold market price.

Malaysia Commemorative Banknote 1998 : KL'98 Commonwealth Games

On 1st June 1998, Bank Negara Malaysia in co-operation with Sukom Ninety Eight Berhad issued a new RM50 note to commemorate the Kuala Lumpur '98 XVI Commonwealth Games. This banknote was the first polymer banknote to be issued in Malaysia.

The design of the note portrays Malaysia as a world class sporting destination. The front features the portrait of the first Seri Paduka Baginda Yang di-Pertuan Agong on the right and the Kuala Lumpur city skyline with prominent landmarks in the centre. The Look of the Commonwealth Games which features the stylised butterfly symbol and the gold-coloured Optical Variable Device (OVD) with the portrait of the first Seri Paduka Baginda Yang di-Pertuan Agong in the clear window appears on the left. The logo of Bank Negara Malaysia appears in the other clear window on the right of the note. The Kuala Lumpur International Airport is featured as the central backdrop. To the right, the background design shows the artist's impression of the Multimedia Super Corridor connecting Kuala Lumpur City Centre to Putrajaya, Cyberjaya and the new Kuala Lumpur International Airport.

The design on the back of the note shows the Bukit Jalil National Stadium in the centre. The logo of the Kuala Lumpur '98 XVI Commonwealth Games appears on the left of the note.

Malaysia Commemorative Coins 1977 : 9th SEA Games

 The 9th SEA Games commemorative coins were issued by Bank Negara Malaysia in conjunction with the Southeast Asia Games held in Kuala Lumpur from 19 December to 26 December 1977. The sport was participated by 3 new countries; Brunei, Indonesia and the Philippines who have just joined the SEAP sports association. This made the entire 7 countries participating in sports events including Myanmar, Singapore, Thailand and Malaysia who have participated in the previous SEA Sports.

 

The commemorative coins were issued on July 15, 1977 with 3 denominations; $ 200 gold coins, $ 25 silver coins and $ 1 cupro-nickel. All of these coins were minted in the Franklin Mint, USA.

 

On the $ 200 coin front shows a man "Bajau" is riding a horse, $ 25 coins have a Southeast Asian map and a $ 1 coin shows traditional games of the moon. There is also the official logo of the sea sports and the words "NINTH SOUTHEAST ASIA GAMES".

 

On the back of the coin display Jata Negara Malaysia in the middle with the word "KUALA LUMPUR-MALAYSIA 1977" on the top and the denominator on the bottom

Malaysia Commemorative Coins 1977 : 100th Year of Rubber

Brief History

Rubber was introduced by British colonists to Singapore in 1877 via Brazil, Kew Gardens in London and Sri Lanka. Within a decade after it was introduced, planters in remote parts of Southeast Asia planted rubber trees in their cultivated plots. Malaysia had an ideal climate, soil for rubber and plenty of land. Production increased dramatically after the 1890s when there was a huge surge in demand for rubber. For many years rubber along with tin were Malaysia’s primary exports.

By the 1930s, Malaysia produced half of the world’s rubber. Many of the Chinese and Indians that live in Malaysia today are descendants of laborers brought to work on the rubber plantations. For the most part the plantations were owned by European owners. They helped transform Malaysia into Britain’s richest colony. After independence, many of the plantations were turned over to Malaysian hands and some were converted to palm oil plantations.

Malaysia Commemorative Coins 1976 : EPF 25th Anniversary

The Malaysian EPF was established in 1951 pursuant to the Employees Provident Fund Ordinance 1951, under the National Director of Posts.   This law became the EPF Act 1951 in 1982, then replaced with EPF Act 1991 ( Act 452 ) in 1991.

The EPF Act 1991 requires employees and their employers to contribute towards their retirement savings, and allows workers to withdraw these savings at retirement or for special purposes before then.
