Malaysia Commemorative Coins 2009 : Parliament of Malaysia 50th Anniversary

 Bank Negara Malaysia issued three types of commemorative coins to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Parliament of Malaysia. These commemorative coins were launched today by YB Tan Sri Dato' Seri Dr. Abdul Hamid Pawanteh, the President of the Senate (Dewan Negara), at the Parliament building, Kuala Lumpur.


Gold Commemorative Coin (proof) 
This proof coin is made of gold with 999.9 purity and weighs 7.96 grams. It has a face value of RM100 and will be sold at RM1,200 a piece. The mintage quantity is limited to 100 pieces.

Silver Commemorative Coin (proof) 
This proof coin is made of Sterling silver with 92.5 purity and weighs 21.00 grams. It has a face value of RM10 and will be sold at RM150 a piece. The mintage quantity is limited to 300 pieces.

Nordic Gold Brilliant Uncirculated (B.U) Commemorative Coin 
The Nordic Gold (B.U) coin has a face value of RM1 and will be sold at RM10 each. The mintage quantity is 10,000 pieces.




Coin Design 

The Obverse Side of the Coin 
Illustrates the Parliament building with the years "1959-2009" inscribed below the building. On the circumference of the coin, the crescent moon is imprinted with the words "Ulang Tahun Ke-50 Parlimen Malaysia ". The crescent moon symbolizes Islam, the country's official religion. On the upper right side of the coin is a 14-pointed star which represents 14 states of Malaysia , including the Federal Territories .
The Reverse Side of the Coin 
Depicts the Malaysian crest and the Maces of the House of Representatives and Senate Chamber of the Parliament. A revered regalia, the Mace symbolizes the authority of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and the Parliament. The words "BANK NEGARA MALAYSIA " and the denomination of the coin appear on the upper and lower circumference of the coin respectively.

Malaysia Commemorative Coins 2009 : Royal Malaysian Navy 75th anniversary

Bank Negara Malaysia issued three types of commemorative coins to commemorate the 75th Anniversary of the Royal Malaysian Navy. These commemorative coins were launched today by H.R.H the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Al-Haj Ibni Almarhum Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Al-Haj, the Captain-in-Chief of the Royal Malaysian Navy, at the Royal Malaysian Naval Base in Lumut, Perak.

Coin Design

1. The Obverse Side of the Coin
Depicts the Royal Malaysian Navy's insignia in the centre of the coin. The words "Ulang Tahun Ke-75" and "Tentera Laut Diraja Malaysia" written in Jawi appear on the upper and lower circumference of the coin, respectively.


2. The Reverse Side of the Coin
Depicts Royal Malaysian Navy's first Scorpene submarine, which is named KD Tunku Abdul Rahman after the first Prime Minister (expected to arrive in July 2009). The words "Jubli Intan TLDM" are depicted in the center of the coin. The words "BANK NEGARA MALAYSIA" appear on the upper circumference, and the denomination appears on the lower circumference of the coin.

Malaysia Commemorative Coins 2009 : International Year of Astronomy

 Bank Negara Malaysia issued three types of commemorative coins in conjunction with the global celebration of the International Year of Astronomy 2009 (IYA2009). These commemorative coins were launched today by YB Dato' Dr. Maximus Ongkili, Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, at the Planetarium Negara, Kuala Lumpur. These commemorative coins are legal tender and their specifications are as follows:


1. Gold Commemorative Coins (proof)

This proof coin is made of gold with 999.9 purity and weighs 7.96 grams. It has a face value of RM100 and will be sold at RM1,200 a piece. The mintage quantity is limited to 100 pieces.


2. Silver Commemorative Coin (proof)

This proof coin is made of Sterling silver with 92.5 purity and weighs 21.00 grams. It has a face value of RM10 and will be sold at RM150 a piece. The mintage quantity is limited to 350 pieces.


3. Nordic-Gold Brilliant Uncirculated (B.U) Commemorative Coin

The Nordic-Gold (B.U) coin has a face value of RM1 and will be sold at RM10 each. The mintage quantity is 10,000 pieces.




Coin Design

The descriptions of the International Year of Astronomy 2009's commemorative coins design are as follows:


1. The Obverse Side of the Coin

Depicts the Langkawi National Observatory with its main telescope in the centre. The background displays the constellation of stars known as the Orion Belt and the planet Saturn. The words "International Year of Astronomy 2009" appears in the circumference to signify the global celebration of astronomy.


2. The Reverse Side of the Coin

Depicts the official logo of IYA2009 and its main theme "The Universe, Yours To Discover". The words "Bank Negara Malaysia" and the denomination of the coin is reflected on the upper and lower circumference of the coin respectively.

Malaysia Commemorative Coins 2009 : Bank Negara Malaysia 50th Anniversary

Bank Negara Malaysia issued  three special commemorative coins to mark the 50th year of Bank Negara Malaysia's journey in institutional building and in promoting monetary and financial stability. The commemorative coins were launched today by The Honorable Prime Minister of Malaysia, Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.


The commemorative coins are legal tender and their specifications are as follows:

Gold Commemorative Coins (proof)
This proof coin is made of gold with 999.9 purity and weighs 10.07 grams. It has a face value of RM50 and will be sold at RM1,250 a piece. The mintage quantity is limited to 300 pieces.
 
Silver Commemorative Coin (proof)
This proof coin with a face value of RM10 is made of Sterling silver with 92.5 purity and weighs 21.00 grams. It is priced at RM150 a piece. The mintage quantity is limited to 400 pieces.
 
Nordic Gold Brilliant Uncirculated (B.U) Commemorative Coin
The Nordic Gold (B.U) coin has a face value of RM1 and will be sold at RM10 each. The mintage quantity is 10,000 pieces.



Coin Design
The design description of the Bank Negara Malaysia's 50 th Anniversary commemorative coins is as follows:

The Obverse Side of the Coin

The obverse side depicts the silhouette of the skyline of Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya reflecting the progress and economic development of Malaysia since its independence.

The logo of the Bank appears in the centre, within the outline of the star anise (bunga lawang), is a familiar local spice. The star anise represents the significance of the spice trade which brought economic growth and prosperity to this region during the period of the Malay Sultanate. This star anise was depicted in the Dinar Matahari coin that was used during the Malay Sultanate. The words "Ulang Tahun ke-50 Bank Negara Malaysia" and the years "1959 - 2009" appear at the circumference of the coin.
 


The Reverse Side of the Coin

The words "Bank Negara Malaysia" written in Jawi are inscribed on the top circumference of the coin. A "14 pointed star" representing the 14 states in Malaysia including the Federal Territory, is depicted in the centre within the outline of the star anise. The denomination is reflected at the lower circumference of the coin and thepending which is a traditional Malay decorative pattern is depicted on the left and right sides of the coin.
